Liners for bathtub
Basically, bath liners are an acrylic version of your current bathtub – but, if you like, you could make changes in skirt designs and color. Installing is easy. Experts, actually position the liner over the current bathtub, then stick it permanently with a silicon acrylic combination and a two-sided tape.
It normally takes only one or two days to install, but the entire process will last from one to two months because the installers must first take photographs and accurate area measurements until they mold an acrylic liner.
Will a liner work for your bathtub?
When your tub had its good days and is not good enough with reglazing, the better choice could be a liner.
"When the bathtub and the area around it are fully worn out with cracks or unfinished tile work, a liner is the solution. This is a popular solution for houses constructed in the recent past because they align with liners, unlike an older, and historic home with a freestanding tub, the design and layout of the bathtub not aligned to lining," DiClerico says.
Before diving straight in, research and make sure you collaborate with bathtub-liner-experts.
"If the work is not done properly, the surface is not well prepared or if the pre-existing conditions exist (water seeped in, anywhere, for example) you will essentially hide a problem that will soon be resurfaced," said Dean F. Rascoe, Sales and Marketing Director at G.M. Roth, the remodeling company.
Advantages
Timing: It normally takes only one or two days to install a bath liner! If you want to cover the walls, it can take a little more time.
Disadvantages
"Liners only match exactly what you began with, but change the color. However, if you are looking for a different width, depth or length, you must substitute your bathtub," Wagner said. "This option will not change the bathtub's original look."
- • The prices are dependent on the material you choose and the level of customization (the cost of shelving and the cost of other accessories is higher).
Sometimes your bathtub has fully worn out, and you have to totally rebuild it.
3. Substitution of the bathtub
Regardless of whether your bathtub is awful or you would like a new tub, a complete bathtub replacement is another choice to take into consideration. Naturally, this is the most time consuming and cost-consuming option and requires removing your entire bathtub to install a new one.
"When these walls are open, it’s a suitable time in upgrading the shower valve and installing blocks for future grab bars and include niches within new tile walls,' Lantz said. "These options usually require the removal of wall tile, which can then lead to sheet and/or stack repairs.”
Will your tub work?
It is worthwhile for house owners who do not like the shape, size and location of an existing tub to fully personalize their new bathtub. If you have time and resources to invest in a larger project such as a total bathtub replacement.
Advantages:
- • You can select your bathtub material and always choose a cheaper alternative such as acrylic or fiber glass. You can spend more money on the work involved.
- "This is the only option that truly enables a homeowner to have a tub or a bath that truly meets their specific needs," stated Rascoe.
- • Your bathtub could be fully transformed!
- • Instead of band help repair, this is a much longer-term solution.
- Disadvantages
- • A new bathtub will cost between 300-3,000 dollars - plus jobs. Average costs, including work and material, according to HomeAdvisor, are 3,024 dollars.
- • Make sure you bring the area around the bathtub back together with some wiggle room on your budget.
- • If you select a customer unit, the project will take up to several weeks or months. With only one bathtub in the house, you will have to plan alternative showers and bathtubs during building.
- Bathtub relining and bathtub refinishing serve cosmetic purposes, while bathtub replacement can be compared to some major surgery where complexity and cost is higher.
- What is the best choice for you?
